Istanbul Naval Museum is one of Türkiye’s most important maritime museums, preserving the naval heritage of the Ottoman Empire and the Republic. Its modern exhibition building presents an extensive collection that includes imperial barges, ship models, naval uniforms, maps, weapons, and ceremonial objects. The architecture is contemporary and functional rather than monumental, designed to accommodate large-scale maritime artifacts while offering clear, spacious galleries. The museum is especially notable for its richly decorated sultan’s caiques, among the finest surviving examples of Ottoman court craftsmanship.

Getting there: The nearest stop is Beşiktaş ferry terminal and bus hub, about 250 m away, roughly a 3–4 minute walk. Kabataş tram and funicular connections are also reachable with a short bus or taxi ride.

Note: Arrive earlier in the day for a quieter visit, as weekends and school holidays can be busier. Allow extra time for the imperial boat gallery, which is the highlight of the museum. Comfortable shoes are useful, and checking current opening days before visiting is recommended.
