Eyüp Sultan Mosque is one of Istanbul’s most revered religious monuments, built near the tomb of Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, a companion of the Prophet Muhammad, making it a major site of Ottoman spiritual life. The mosque was first constructed in the 15th century shortly after the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople and later rebuilt in the 18th century in an elegant Ottoman Baroque style. Its graceful courtyard, domed prayer hall, and historic cemetery-covered hillside create a solemn atmosphere that blends imperial history with active worship. The complex remains an important destination for both pilgrims and visitors interested in Ottoman architecture and sacred heritage.

Getting there: The nearest stop is Eyüpsultan Teleferik / Eyüpsultan bus stops, about 250–400 meters away, roughly a 4–6 minute walk. The Feshane station on the T5 tram line is also nearby at around 700 meters, about 9–10 minutes on foot.

Note: Modest clothing is recommended; women should cover their hair and all visitors should remove shoes before entering the prayer area. Avoid visiting during Friday noon prayers and major religious holidays if you want a quieter experience. The courtyard, tomb area, and nearby hill can be busy, so early morning is usually the most peaceful time.
