Santa Maria Draperis Church is one of the oldest Roman Catholic churches in Istanbul, closely associated with the city’s Levantine and Franciscan communities since the Ottoman era. Rebuilt in the 18th century after earlier fires, the present building combines restrained Baroque and Neoclassical architectural elements. Its modest entrance from the street leads to a quiet courtyard and an elegantly decorated sanctuary. The church’s rich history reflects Beyoğlu’s multicultural heritage and the continuous tradition of Latin Catholic worship in Pera.

How to get there: The nearest stop is Tünel on the historic tram line along İstiklal Avenue, about 350 m away (approximately a 5-minute walk). Şişhane Metro Station is also nearby, around 500 m away (about a 7-minute walk).

Note: As this is an active place of worship, visitors are expected to dress modestly and remain quiet, especially during Mass and private prayer. The church is closed daily for a lunch break from 12:00 to 13:00. Please note that the sloping streets around the church can become slippery in rainy weather, so comfortable footwear is recommended.
