Büyükada Pier

About this place

Büyükada Pier is one of the island’s best-known gateways and a landmark of early 20th-century maritime architecture in the Princes’ Islands. Its elegant façade, symmetrical composition, and period detailing reflect the late Ottoman to early Republican taste for refined public transport buildings. Beyond its transport role, the pier has long shaped the social life of Büyükada, welcoming day-trippers, summer residents, and visitors arriving for seaside promenades. The setting also offers memorable views of the Marmara Sea and the lively waterfront square.

Getting there: The attraction is directly at Büyükada Ferry Pier; visitors arriving by Şehir Hatları, Mavi Marmara, or other island ferries step out at the site itself, with 0–50 m walking distance and about 1 minute on foot from the main landing area.

Note: Ferries and the square are busiest on weekends, summer afternoons, and holidays, so arriving early makes photography and orientation easier. In windy or rainy weather, the pier area can feel exposed, so a light jacket is useful even in warm seasons. Combine your stop with a walk along the waterfront and check return ferry times in advance, especially in the evening.
