The House of Trotsky on Büyükada is known as the residence where Leon Trotsky lived in exile between 1929 and 1933, making it a place of strong 20th-century political memory. The building is a late Ottoman wooden mansion, once part of the island’s elegant residential fabric, and even in its ruined state it reflects the layered architectural character of the Princes’ Islands. Its weathered façade, large proportions, and secluded setting give it a dramatic atmosphere that attracts visitors interested in history, photography, and literary-political heritage. Although not a conventional museum interior, the site is valued for its historical associations and evocative exterior.

Getting there: From Büyükada Ferry Pier, the house is about 1,700 m away, roughly a 25–30 minute walk uphill through residential streets. Electric island vehicles and local taxis can shorten the approach, followed by a brief walk on Hamlacı Street.

Note: The site is best visited in daylight and dry weather, as the surrounding streets can be steep and the structure is primarily appreciated from outside. Wear comfortable shoes, bring water in warm months, and plan extra time on weekends when ferry arrivals make Büyükada busier.
