Maiden's Tower

Maiden's Tower is one of Istanbul's most iconic historic landmarks, rising from a small islet at the southern entrance of the Bosphorus. Its layered history reaches back to antiquity, while the present structure reflects mainly Ottoman-era rebuilding with a compact masonry body, elegant proportions, and a lantern-topped silhouette. Over centuries it served as a watchtower, customs point, quarantine station, and lighthouse, giving it both strategic and symbolic importance in the city's maritime story. Today it is admired as much for its architecture and legends as for its panoramic setting between Europe and Asia.

Getting there: The closest stop is Üsküdar Marmaray/metro/ferry hub, about 1,000 m away, around 12–15 minutes on foot to the Salacak shore departure area. From the waterfront, visitors usually continue by the official short boat transfer to the tower. Buses serving Üsküdar Square and the Salacak coast also provide convenient access.

Note: Check current boat departure times and weather conditions before visiting, as access depends on sea service. Sunset hours are especially popular for photos and can bring queues, so earlier daytime visits are usually calmer. Wear comfortable shoes for the waterfront walk and bring a light layer in windy weather.
