About this place

Pertevniyal Valide Sultan Mosque was commissioned by Pertevniyal Sultan, mother of Sultan Abdülaziz, and completed in the early 1870s as one of the late Ottoman imperial mosques. Its design blends Ottoman forms with eclectic 19th-century influences, combining a central dome, richly carved stonework, ornate windows, and decorative details that reflect the empire’s changing architectural taste. Standing beside the busy Aksaray junction, it remains both an active place of worship and a notable monument of imperial patronage.

Getting there: Aksaray Tram stop is about 150 m away, roughly a 2-minute walk; Yenikapı Marmaray and metro connections are around 900 m away, about 10–12 minutes on foot.

Note: Modest dress is recommended; women may wish to carry a headscarf, and visitors should avoid entering during prayer times unless coming to worship. Shoes must be removed before entering the prayer hall, and quieter visits are usually possible between the main prayer periods.
