Yıldız Palace

About this place

Yıldız Palace is one of the last great imperial complexes of the Ottoman Empire, developed mainly in the 19th century as the residence and administrative center of Sultan Abdülhamid II. Rather than a single monumental block, it is a landscaped ensemble of pavilions, kiosks, gardens, and ceremonial buildings spread across a wooded hillside. Its architecture blends late Ottoman court taste with European influences, especially visible in the richly decorated Şale Pavilion, elegant interiors, and carefully designed garden layouts.

Getting there: The nearest stop is Beşiktaş bus stops and ferry area, about 900 m away, around 12–15 minutes on foot uphill; Maçka–Taşkışla cable car access is farther, while local buses serving Yıldız and Beşiktaş are convenient.

Note: Buy tickets at the official entrance and expect security screening. Weekends and late mornings are usually busier, so arriving early helps with a calmer visit and better photos in the gardens. Wear comfortable shoes, as the palace grounds include slopes, paths, and multiple buildings.
