About this place

Kılıç Ali Pasha Mosque is a 16th-century Ottoman imperial mosque commissioned by admiral Kılıç Ali Pasha and designed by Mimar Sinan, the chief architect of the classical Ottoman age. Its composition recalls the great central-domed mosques of Istanbul, with a spacious prayer hall, elegant proportions, and refined stone workmanship. The complex originally included a madrasa, hamam, and fountain, reflecting the charitable külliye tradition. Restored in recent years, it remains both an active place of worship and a major monument of Ottoman maritime-era patronage.

Getting there: The nearest tram stop is Tophane on the T1 line, about 250 m away, around 3–4 minutes on foot. It is also reachable from Karaköy by a walk of roughly 700 m in about 9–10 minutes.

Note: As this is a functioning mosque, visitors should dress modestly; women are advised to cover their hair, and shoes must be removed before entering the prayer area. Non-worship visits are best planned outside prayer times, especially Friday noon prayers, when access may be limited.
