About this place

Şehzade Mosque is one of the earliest great imperial works of architect Mimar Sinan, built in the 1540s by Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent in memory of his son Prince Mehmed. The complex is a landmark of classical Ottoman architecture, with a balanced central dome, semi-domes, elegant minarets, and a spacious courtyard that shows Sinan’s search for perfect proportion. Its interior is admired for harmonious geometry, refined stonework, and a calm atmosphere that reflects the ceremonial character of an imperial mosque.

Getting there: The nearest stop is Vezneciler–İstanbul Üniversitesi Metro on the M2 line, about 450 m away, around 6 minutes on foot. Laleli-Üniversite tram stop on the T1 line is also close, roughly 700 m away, about 9 minutes walking.

Note: Free entry. As this is an active mosque, visitors should dress modestly; women may need a headscarf, and shoulders and knees should be covered. Non-prayer visits are best made between prayer times, and mornings usually feel quieter for photography and respectful interior viewing.
