Gülhane Park

About this place

Gülhane Park is one of Istanbul’s oldest and most historically layered public parks, occupying the outer gardens of Topkapı Palace and reflecting the landscape legacy of the Ottoman court. Opened to the public in the early 20th century, it combines formal paths, mature plane trees, flower beds, and broad lawns with traces of imperial garden design. Its sloping terrain leads toward views of the Bosphorus and the historic peninsula, making it both a leisure space and a place tied to the city’s imperial past.

Getting there: The nearest tram stop is Gülhane on the T1 line, about 350 m away, roughly a 5-minute walk to one of the main entrances. Sirkeci Marmaray and railway hub are also nearby at around 700 m, about 9 minutes on foot.

Note: Entry is free, and the park is especially busy on spring weekends and during tulip season. Wear comfortable shoes for uphill and downhill paths, and bring water or sun protection in warm weather since the grounds are spacious and partly exposed.
