The Istanbul Archaeological Museums, opened in the late 19th century, are among Türkiye’s earliest purpose-built museum institutions and mark a major step in Ottoman-era museology. The complex includes the Archaeology Museum, the Museum of the Ancient Orient, and the Tiled Kiosk, presenting artifacts from Anatolia, Mesopotamia, Egypt, and the classical world. Its main building reflects a refined neoclassical style inspired by ancient sarcophagus architecture, while the Tiled Kiosk preserves an earlier Ottoman pavilion character.

Getting there: The nearest tram stop is Gülhane on the T1 line, about 450 m away, roughly a 6-minute walk uphill through the historic Sultanahmet area. Marmaray Sirkeci is around 1 km away, about 12–15 minutes on foot.

Note: Arrive early to explore the multi-building complex at a comfortable pace, as galleries can take several hours to cover fully. Weekends and midday periods are usually busier; comfortable shoes are recommended because of courtyards, slopes, and extensive indoor walking.
