About this place

Beylerbeyi Palace is a refined 19th-century Ottoman imperial residence built between 1863 and 1865 for Sultan Abdülaziz on the Asian shore of the Bosphorus. Designed in an elegant blend of Ottoman palace tradition and Western-influenced Baroque, Neoclassical, and Empire details, it served as a summer palace and an official venue for hosting foreign dignitaries. Its richly decorated halls, crystal chandeliers, carved ceilings, and seaside setting make it one of Istanbul’s most graceful late Ottoman monuments.

Getting there: The nearest stop is Beylerbeyi bus stop, about 250 m away, around 3–4 minutes on foot. From the European side, visitors often arrive via ferry to Üsküdar and continue by bus or taxi; from Marmaray, Üsküdar station is roughly 5 km away.

Note: Palace interiors are usually visited on a timed route, so arriving earlier in the day helps avoid heavier crowds. Photography rules may be stricter inside than in the gardens, and modest walking shoes are useful because the visit includes outdoor sections and stairs.
