About this place

Çiçek Pasajı is a late 19th-century arcade on İstiklal Avenue, built in 1876 on the site of the former Naum Theatre and designed in an elegant European passage style. Its ornate façade, glass-covered interior, arches, and decorative details reflect Beyoğlu’s cosmopolitan Ottoman-era character. The name, meaning “Flower Passage,” became popular when flower sellers operated here after the Russian Revolution. Today it remains one of Istanbul’s best-known historic social spaces, lined with meyhanes, seafood restaurants, and lively tables.

Getting there: The nearest stop is Taksim Metro Station (M2), about 700 m away, around 9–10 minutes on foot via İstiklal Avenue; Tünel tram/funicular area is also reachable in about 10 minutes.

Note: Entry to the passage is free, but it gets very crowded in the evening and on weekends when restaurants are busiest. Visit earlier in the day for easier photos of the architecture, and expect higher noise levels at night. Comfortable walking shoes are useful because the surrounding area is pedestrian and usually explored on foot.
